Brechwald Breaks EAGL Record with Sixth Weekly Honor of Season

Freshman Becomes First EAGL Gymnast to Earn Six Rookie of the Week Honors.
PITTSBURGH – Freshman Haley Brechwald of the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team was tabbed East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week for a record sixth time this season after an impressive performance in Pitt's dual meet at North Carolina Saturday, March 17.
Her six Rookie of the Week awards this season breaks a tie with former five-time winners Haley Bodenheimer (Pitt/2012), Danielle Doolin (UNH/2016) and Khazia Hislop (UNC/2017).
"Haley has been exceptional this year," said head coach Samantha Snider. "Her poise in competition is so impressive and she has been such a leader for this team, both on and off the floor. I'm incredibly proud of all that she has accomplished thus far and look forward to finishing this season strong."
Brechwald was a key factor in leading Pitt to a team score of 196.050 against North Carolina, which ranks as the team's second-highest road score in program history.
The freshman posted Pitt's best score in two events, while also placing second in the all-around at the meet.
Brechwald earned a 9.875 on floor followed by a season-high tying 9.850 on vault. She also recorded a 9.825 on beam and a 9.750 on bars for an all-around score of 39.300, which is tied for her third highest mark of the season.
In the Panthers' 10 meets this season, Brechwald has collected 12 individual titles. She currently ranks first on the team in RQS on floor (9.875) and vault (9.840), while being tied for first on beam (9.820) and tied for second on bars (9.825). Her all-around RQS of 39.250 is also tops on the team.
Pitt returns to action Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Towson, Md., to compete in the EAGL Championship.
