PITTSBURGH – Pitt track and field will move outdoors for the first time in 2018 at the Charlotte 49er Classic set for Friday and Saturday at Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte, N.C.

The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack.org and live results will be available at FlashResults.com.
A recap of each day's events, along with results, will be posted to PittsburghPanthers.com.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday's field events will begin with women's hammer throw at 11 a.m. Running events will commence at noon with the women's 100m hurdles.
Men's shot put and women's javelin will kick off Saturday's schedule at 10 a.m. The first running event of the day will be the women's 4x100m relay at noon.

BACK IN ACTION

Pitt returns two All-ACC Outdoor performers from last season in juniors Matt McGoey (second team, 3000m steeplechase) and Gillian Schriever (first team, 5000m). Schriever went on to earn All-America second team honors as well as a school record in the 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June 2017.
Andin Fosam returns as an All-America honorable mention in hammer throw. The Robbinsville, N.J., native tied for 23rd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season. She was the first Pitt female thrower to appear in the final since 2005.
Morgan Harvey, Quadaisha Newkirk, Danielle Leaks and Desiree Garland are back as All-America honorable mentions in the women's 4x400m relay. The squad was 24th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year.

GOLD FOR GARLAND

Senior Desiree Garland earned the first ACC women's track & field gold medal in program history with a win in the 400m dash at the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 24 at Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
The Duquesne, Pa., native's time of 53.12 in the final was a personal best mark. With the win, Garland became the first Panther to earn All-ACC women's indoor first team honors. The All-ACC accolades are the first of her career.
She earned the Panthers' fourth overall ACC indoor title in program history, and the third ACC indoor individual championship, joining Carvin Nkanata (200m, 2014) and Andrew Wells (weight throw, 2016). The men's indoor 4x400m relay team of Micah Murray, Nkanata, Desmond Palmer and Brycen Spratling was champion in 2014.

MORE ACC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS

To kick off the final day of competition, junior Miranda Salvo clocked a personal best time of 4:46.08 to place sixth in the women's mile final and earn a spot on the All-ACC second team for the first time in her career.
After becoming the first Panther ever to qualify for the men's ACC indoor 800m final, sophomore Danté Watson picked up a point by finishing eight at 1:51.77.
Pitt had two freshman scorers in the men's 200m in Jabari Michael-Khensu who placed fifth at 21.10 and Ade Jones-Roundtree who finished eighth at 21.34. Michael-Khensu earned All-ACC second team honors with his finish, marking the first accolades of his career.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will compete down the road at the CMU Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University Friday and Saturday, March 23-24, at Gesling Stadium in Pittsburgh.
