
Pitt Closes Out Non-Conference Slate With City Game On Saturday

PITTSBURGH – After a week break for the holidays, the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team (8-5, 0-0 ACC) will return to the court on Saturday afternoon as they head to crosstown rival Duquesne for the 37th edition of the City Game. The Panthers and Dukes will tangle inside the A.J. Palumbo Center at 2:00 pm in what will be Pitt's final non-conference game of the season.

- Pitt has now overcome a deficit of 10+ points in back-to-back games for the first time since joining the ACC in 2013-14.
- The overtime victory for the Panthers over the Red Flash marked their first OT win since Mar. 2, 2016 when they downed North Carolina 82-72 in the extra frame.
- With the win over Saint Francis (PA), Pitt improved to 7-0 this season when scoring at least 60 points.
- The Panthers (8-5, 0-0 ACC) notched their second straight come-from-behind victory as they downed Saint Francis (PA) 78-75 in overtime on Dec. 21 inside the Petersen Events Center.
- Trailing by 12 at halftime, the Panthers came out of the locker room on fire as they netted a season-high 27 points in the third quarter and shot 65.5% from the floor in the second half to secure the win.
- Senior Danielle Garven had the best game of her career in the win as she netted a career-high 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks across 33 minutes of work.
- Junior point guard Jasmine Whitney had an impressive second half in the win as she netted all 17 of her points in the second half and overtime. Whitney finished the game with 17 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds while going 5-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
- Making her second straight start, senior Kauai Bradley was all over the floor for the Panthers as she netted eight points, eight rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks across 36 minutes.
- As a team, Pitt was able to outscored the Red Flash 44-26 inside the paint while also forcing 27 turnovers and turning those chances into 29 points.
- The Duquesne Dukes enter Saturday's contest against Pitt with a 5-6 overall record on the season as they have lost two straight including a 55-51 defeat by Liberty on December 22.
- The Dukes are being led offensively this season by Kadri-Ann Lass who has started all 11 games and is averaging 10.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while connecting on 43.9% of her field goal attempts. Lass is also playing a team-high 28.6 minutes/game so far this season.
- Julijana Vojinovic is enjoying a nice start to the season as she ranks second on the team scoring 10.3 points/game while connecting on a team-high 15 three-pointers. Libby Bazelak is averaging 6.5 points while dishing out a team-high 2.7 assists/game.
- As a team, the Dukes offense is averaging 63.5 points/game while they are allowing 67.5 points/game. Duquesne is being outrebounded 35.5 to 38.9 so far this season but their defense is forcing 16.5 turnovers/game.
- The Dukes are coached by Dan Burt who has accumulated a record of 119-60 with Duquesne while helping them achieve four 20+ win campaigns over the past five seasons.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will open up ACC play on Thursday, Jan. 3 as they travel to the defending national champions Notre Dame for their first conference game of the season.
- The Panthers will then stay on the road for another test as they travel to Raleigh, NC to take on the nationally ranked NC State Wolfpack.
- Pitt will have their ACC home opener on Sunday, Jan. 13 as they welcome Boston College to the Petersen Events Center for a 1:00 pm tip.
