Pitt Plays Host To Saint Francis (PA) On Friday Night

PITTSBURGH – After posting their biggest comeback victory in over four years, the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team (7-5, 0-0 ACC) returns to the Petersen Events Center on Friday night in search of their second straight win as Saint Francis (PA) comes to town for a 7:00 pm showdown.

- Friday's game against the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash will broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and may be viewed on WatchESPN or the WatchESPN app. Jeff Hathhorn (PxP) and Amanda Silay (Color) will provide the commentary.

- Pitt overcame their largest second half deficit (13) since Dec. 31, 2011 whey they overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat Lafayette.
- The Panthers have been nearly unstoppable against Northeast Conference opponents all-time as they own a 51-3 record against NEC foes.
- With the win over UNCW, Pitt improved to 6-0 this season when scoring at least 60 points.
- The Panthers (7-5, 0-0 ACC) got back to their winning ways on Tuesday night as they used a strong second half to overcome a 13-point deficit and defeat UNCW, 60-56.
- Sophomore Cara Judkins continued her great play down low for Pitt as she netted a career-high 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks while going 8-for-11 from the floor.
- Senior Cassidy Walsh put together another strong performance as she netted 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds, five assists and a steal across 32 minutes of work.
- Coming off the bench against the Seahawks, Kyla Nelson had a strong showing as she netted 11 points on 4-for-8 from the floor in 25 minutes.
- The Panthers were able to control the glass on Tuesday as they outrebounded the Seahawks 37-26 including a 13-8 edge in offensive rebounds in the win.
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
- The Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash come to town with a 3-8 overall record after ending a four-game losing streak on Wednesday night as they downed Morehead State 89-83.
- The Red Flash are being led offensively by Jess Kovatch who is averaging 19.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists while connecting on 41.1% of her three-pointers this season. Earlier this season, Kovatch broke the school and NEC career points record as she has now accumulated 2,373 points over her impressive career. She also holds the NEC record for three-pointers made in a career (393), a number that also sits fourth in NCAA history.
- Karson Swogger is enjoying a nice start to her season as she is averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists while Courtney Zezza is averaging 8.9 points, a team-high 5.6 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 blocks per outing.
- As a team, the Red Flash give up a lot of points as they are allowing 86.5 points/game while scoring an average of 69.8 points. They do however connect on a lot of three-pointers as they rank third in the NCAA averaging 11.5 three-pointers made per game.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will have a short break for the holidays before returning to the court on Dec. 29 as they head to crosstown rival Duquesne for the City game at 2:00 pm. The game against the Dukes will mark the end of the non-conference portion of the schedule for Pitt.
- The Panthers will then open up ACC play on the road against the defending national champions Notre Dame on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 pm.
