Pitt Ranked 36th by Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – As voted on by the coaches of the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), Pitt is nationally ranked at No. 36 in the 2019 preseason poll, as announced Monday.
"It's exciting to see our program receive national recognition from our coaches association," Panthers head coach Samantha Snider said. "We've been working hard this preseason to challenge our student-athletes to improve upon last year's historic performance. We're excited to begin our season at home in front of our fans at Fitzgerald Field House on Jan. 12."
The Panthers received 247 points in the poll.
Six of Pitt's 2019 non-conference opponents earned rankings, including No. 11 Nebraska, No. 13 Denver, No. 20 Arizona State, No. 23 Minnesota, No. 31 Maryland and No. 35. West Virginia. Three fellow EAGL teams appeared in the poll, including No. 25 NC State, No. 26 George Washington and No. 34 New Hampshire. North Carolina and Towson each received votes in the poll.
Returning for the Panthers are seniors Lucy Brett, Krista Collins, Charli Spivey and Brittany West, who look to make a second consecutive NCAA Regional Championship appearance. Also returning for Pitt is sophomore Haley Brechwald, who earned 2018 EAGL Rookie of the Year honors after securing six EAGL Rookie of the Week awards over the course of the season. New faces include freshmen Katie Chamberlain, Rebekah Jenkins, Caitlyn Kline, Olivia Miller and Kiley Robatin.
The Panthers will open the 2019 season Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. Pitt will host Utah State, West Virginia and Eastern Michigan.
The WCGA is the advocate for women's collegiate gymnastics. This coaches' association was known previously as the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.
