
Pitt to Host 2018 NCAA Volleyball Tournament Opening Rounds

Panthers to Host First, Second Rounds at Petersen Events Center
PITTSBURGH – For the first time in program history, the 2018 ACC Champion University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (29-1, 17-1 ACC) will host the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament First and Second Rounds, set for Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1, respectively, at Petersen Events Center.
"This is definitely an exciting time for us as a program, to be able to host," said head coach Dan Fisher. "We've been talking about this for a few years. We're really pleased with the decision of the committee to let us host, and we're excited to start preparing."
The Panthers, who claimed a 12 seed, earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the 2018 ACC Championship title. This marks Pitt's third consecutive appearance in the tournament and its 14th appearance in program history.
Pitt will face Iona (20-7) Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. ET in the second of two First Round matches at Petersen Events Center. Michigan (22-9) and Navy (23-8) will face off in Friday's first match at 4 p.m. ET. The winners of Friday's matches will meet in the Second Round Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. ET at Petersen Events Center.
MATCHUP INFO: Friday marks the first meeting between Pitt and Iona.
The Panthers are one of five ACC teams to make the tournament. The other teams include Duke, Florida State, Louisville and Syracuse.
2018 NCAA TOURNAMENT
The 2018 Division I Women's Volleyball championship provides for a field of 64 teams to compete in a single elimination tournament. Of the 64 teams, 32 teams will receive automatic qualification while the remaining 32 teams are selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Women's Volleyball Committee.
First and Second Round competition will be held at 16 non-predetermined campus sites. At each campus site, four teams will compete in single-elimination first round competition. The two advancing teams then compete against each other in single-elimination second round competition at the same campus site. The winning team from each of the 16 second rounds advances to the regional round.
Regionals for the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be held at four non-predetermined campus sites. At each site, four teams compete in single-elimination regional semifinal competition. The two advancing teams then compete against each other in single-elimination regional final. The winning team from each of the four regions will advance to the DI Women's Volleyball Championship final site in Minneapolis, Minn.
The 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be held at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The national semifinals will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET. The national championship will take place Saturday, Dec. 15, at 9 p.m. ET.
