Senior Paces Panthers at Second Consecutive Meet
RESULTS
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For the second consecutive meet, senior Kelly Hayes led the way for Pitt women's cross country, placing third at Penn State's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Blue and White Golf Courses Friday morning.
"I was really happy with our races today," Pitt women's cross country coach Adam Bray said. "We had some ladies racing for the first time this season and it usually takes a race or two to get things rolling. I think we are sitting in a good position going into the main part of our season. Kelly Hayes finished third overall today and continues to show that she is one of the best distance runners in the ACC."
The Pearl River, N.Y., native completed the 6K course in a personal-record tying time of 21:17. Hayes' classmates Joslin Sellers and Amy Kelly were next to finish for Pitt, taking 19th (22:04) and 22nd (22:10). Rounding out the top 25 were juniors Makenzie Zeh (23rd, 22:13) and Miranda Salvo (25th, 22:19).
Returning from injury, senior Melanie Vlasic saw competition for the first time since Jan. 27, 2017, and placed 28th for Pitt at 22:29.
The meet was scored as duals between the seven competing schools. Pitt posted three wins and three losses in a field that featured No. 11 Penn State, No. 26 Georgetown, (RV) Syracuse, (RV) West Virginia, Bucknell and Edinboro.
