AMHERST, N.Y. – Pitt men's cross country picked up its first team win of the season at the UB Stampede Invitational hosted by Buffalo Friday morning at Audobon Golf Course.
Led by seniors Ryan Hughes and Aaron Lauer, who made their 2017 season debut, the Panthers topped a field of eight teams in the 8K race. It was the men's first win since the 2016 Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
"I'm proud of how the men took care of business today by getting the win," coach Bryan Jackson said. "We are still running big miles and training hard so winning and racing as well as they did is a good sign. McMaster is one of the top ranking cross country teams in Canada, so we beat a very good opponent today."
Four Panthers placed in the top 10, including Hughes (second, 24:43.6), Lauer (third, 25:01.4), Matt McGoey (seventh, 25:14.4) and Billy Caldwell (10th, 25:33.4). Freshman Zach Lefever was soon to follow, placing 11th 25:35.5.
Sophomore Jackson Morton took 13th at 25:40.1. Rounding out the Panthers' entries were Sebastian Curtin (30th, 26:13.1), Andrew Burroughs (31st, 26:15.9) and Drew Glick (53rd, 27:22.1).
