Pitt Faces Combined 11 Nationally Ranked Teams

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Racing against a combined 11 nationally ranked opponents, the Pitt men's and women's cross country teams were tested at the Notre Dame/Joe Piane Invitational Friday at Burke Golf Course.
In the women's Blue Division 5K, the Panthers placed 15th. The men placed 18th in the Blue Division 5-mile. No. 1 Colorado took the win on the women's side, and No. 13 Southern Utah claimed the men's victory.
Making her 2017 season debut was junior Gillian Schriever, who was the Panthers' top finisher at 48th (17:17.9). Senior Kelly Hayes was a split second behind her at 49th (17:17.9).
In the men's Blue Division 5-mile, Ryan Hughes was Pitt's top finisher for the second consecutive meet, coming in 29th at 24:23.1. Senior Aaron Lauer was next to finish for the Panthers at 61st (24:42.9).
All Panthers who competed in the women's Open 5K finished in the top 30, paced by senior Emily Loeffelholz who took 12th at 18:39.9.
In the men's Open 5-mile, sophomore Nick Wolk took the start line for the first time this season and placed fourth at 25:18.6.
