Pryce Nets Third Goal as Pitt Improves to 3-0-2
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team remains undefeated on the season as the Panthers earned a 3-1 victory over Detroit Mercy Wednesday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Pitt got goals from Mikayla Schmidt, Taylor Pryce and Christiana Davey as the Panthers out-shot the Titans 20-7. Goalkeeper Katelyn McEachern improved to 3-0-1 on the year, making three saves and allowing just one goal, a penalty kick in the 74th minute. With the win, Pitt improves to 3-0-2 on the season.
"I thought we had good energy from the beginning," said head coach Greg Miller. "It was our most consistent performance overall and we scored some good goals. I'm just really happy for our group. On to the next one."
With just under seven minutes remaining in the first period, Schmidt would come off the bench and take a pass from Seyla Perez, sinking it into the back of the right corner of the net to put Pitt on top 1-0. The Panthers would take the one-goal lead into the break.
"Any time players can get goals, it doesn't matter where it comes from, it not only helps the individual's confidence but it helps the team because you never know where goals are going to come from," added Miller. "When multiple people are getting goals it only helps us."
In the second half, Pryce would need just two minutes to extend Pitt's lead to 2-0, finishing a breakaway from Vildan Kardesler.
The Titans would cut Pitt's lead to 2-1 in the 74th minute, successfully converting a penalty kick. Pitt, however, would respond in the 86th minute as Davey netted her first of the season, taking a deflection from a Pryce shot as Pitt held on for a 3-1 victory.
