Aprile Announces Addition of Rahach to Roster

Taylor Rahach Transfers to Pitt After Two Years at Coastal Carolina
PITTSBURGH – Pitt head softball coach Holly Aprile announced Thursday the addition of Coastal Carolina transfer Taylor Rahach to the 2017-18 roster.
Rahach, a right-handed pitcher, comes to Pittsburgh as a true junior, having spent her first two years at Coastal Carolina.
"As a junior transfer, I couldn't be more excited to join the Pitt softball program," said Rahach. " I'm looking forward to competing in the ACC with girls I not only grew up around, but with new friends and teammates."
Rahach grew up playing softball with rising junior Gabrielle Fredericks and rising sophomore Brittany Knight in travel ball, while rising senior Taylor Stimson was her teammate at Walsh Jesuit High School. All four student-athletes are Ohio natives.
Rahach saw action in 42 games during her time with the Chanticleers, starting 27 of those on the mound. Following a freshman campaign in which she tossed 25.2 innings, Rahach became a staple in Coastal Carolina's pitching rotation, throwing 137.2 innings as a sophomore. She went 13-9 and maintained a 2.80 ERA, while striking out 119 batters and walked just 55 batters.
During her sophomore year, Rahach enjoyed multiple dominant performances, logging 11 complete games, five shutouts, three one-hitters and a 5.0 inning no-hitter against Rider where she struck out 10 and walked one. Opposing batters hit just .249 off her for the year. Rahach ranked in the top 10 in the Sun Belt Conference in ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts and wins.
At Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Rahach was a standout both in the field and at the plate. She was a three-time first-team all-district and first-team all-league selection while helping lead her team to two state playoff appearances during her sophomore and junior seasons. She was also named second team all-state following a junior season in which she hit .365 with 10 extra-base hits and 13 RBIs as a batter, while striking out 240 opposing players. As a sophomore, she was named team MVP after batting .412 with seven extra-base hits at the plate and striking out 254 batters with a 1.39 ERA on the mound.
Rahach joins a Panther team that returns 17 of its 18 players from the previous season, including All-ACC Freshman Team selection Valerie Ortega. Pitt's lone loss was senior first baseman Kaitlin Manuel, who was a NFCA All-Region Second-Team selection.
