PITTSBURGH -- Seven track and field student-athletes from the University of Pittsburgh will compete across five events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., starting Wednesday at historic Hayward Field.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE
While each individual and relay team are competing for National Championships in Eugene, All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) are also on the line for the student-athletes. The top eight finishers in each event receive first team honors, while finishers 9-16 are named to the second team, and 17-24th are honorable mentions.
SEEDING THE PANTHERS
Pitt's highest-seeded student-athletes are sophomore Gillian Schriever in the women's 10,000m (10th, 33:55.42) and senior Desmond Palmer in the men's 400m hurdles (10th, 50.00). Palmer is 14th in the 110m hurdles, coming in at 13.72.
The women's 4x400m relay is seeded 22nd at 3:35.75, and junior Andin Fosam holds the final spot in the women's hammer throw, at 24th (58.84m).
RETURNING TO EUGENE
The Panthers' travel party to Eugene is a relatively young group, with one senior, four juniors, one sophomore and one freshman in tow. All Panthers but senior Desmond Palmer are making their first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Palmer has competed in the men's 400m hurdles at each of the last three Outdoor Championships. This season marks the first time Palmer will compete in two individual events at the Championships: the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Here's a look at his Championship history:
2016: ninth in semifinal, 50.21, All-America second team
2015: eighth in semifinal, 49.97; eighth in final, 51.57, All-America first team
2014: 14th in semifinal, 51.12, All-America second team
Palmer also competed as part of the men's 4x400m relay teams as a freshman in 2014 and as a junior in 2016.
LAST TIME OUT
Seven Panthers punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with successful performances at the East Preliminary Rounds in Lexington, Ky., May 25-27.
For the first time in his career, All-American senior Desmond Palmer qualified to compete in a second individual event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, taking seventh in the men's 110m hurdles quarterfinal. The Pickerington, Ohio, native advanced as an automatic qualifier by placing third in his heat at 13.72. Palmer qualified in the men's 400m hurdles for the fourth time in his career, placing seventh overall at 50.00 seconds flat.
The women's 4x400m relay team, comprised of Morgan Harvey, Quadaisha Newkirk, Danielle Leaks and Desiree Garland, punched its ticket to Eugene with an automatic qualifying time of 3:35.75. The Panthers placed third in their heat, with help from a blistering 51.90 anchor leg from Garland.
Rounding out the Panthers' travel party to Eugene are Andin Fosam (women's hammer throw) and Gillian Schriever (women's 10,000m), who each qualified in their respective events at the Preliminary Rounds. Fosam threw for 58.84m to place 12th, and Schriever set a personal record at 33:55.42 to place 10th.
