Gray and Manuel Recognized for Efforts in the Classroom
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Recent graduate Kaitlin Manuel and rising sophomore Olivia Gray of the University of Pittsburgh softball team were named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Softball Team, as announced by the league Thursday morning.
The two Panthers rank among an impressive list of 28 ACC softball student-athletes from 11 different universities in receiving this honor.
To be eligible for consideration for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Manuel, a first-time All-ACC Academic selection with a 3.56 GPA this previous semester, recently graduated with an economics degree. She started all 47 games at first base for the Panthers, knocking in 25 RBIs, tied for the second most on the team. She also tallied a team-high 401 putouts, led the ACC in chances with 415 and fielded 21 double plays. Manuel also was named a NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team selection at the end of the season.
Gray, a rehabilitation science major, earns her second straight All-ACC Academic selection with a 3.75 GPA in the spring semester of her sophomore year at Pitt. Gray started all every game for Pitt in a successful second season with the Panthers, leading the team with 42 hits, 34 runs, 24 walks and a .405 on-base percentage.
