Pitt to Compete in Five College Championships of America Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - The Pitt track and field teams had success across the board Friday at the 123rd Penn Relay Carnival at Franklin Field, as well as at the Ashland Open.
Friday's action raised the number of Pitt's College Championship of America events to five, all to be run Saturday at the Penn Relays: men's 4x200m (2:45 p.m.), women's 4x800m (4:10 p.m.), men's 4x800m (4:40 p.m.), women's 4x400m (5:50 p.m.) and men's 4x400m (6 p.m.).
At the Ashland Open, junior Andin Fosam represented the Panthers and picked up a win in the hammer throw invitational with a toss of 60.43m.
En route to their qualification at the Penn Relays, the men's 4x400m team of Brylan Slay, Jamaree Murray, Dante Watson and Desmond Palmer ran a season-best time by nearly two seconds, as runners-up in their heat at 3:07.52. Their mark ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference as of Friday afternoon.
With a heat mark of 1:25.17, the men's 4x200m squad of Jabari Michael-Khensu, Murray, Palmer and Slay also qualified for the championship. The Panthers were runners-up in their heat and placed sixth overall.
The Panthers' men's distance medley relay team had a successful outing, posting a season-best time of 9:48.78. Billy Caldwell, Dante Watson, Nate Sloan and Matt McGoey placed third overall.
In the College Women's 4x100m relay final, the team of Genaya Johnson, Danielle Leaks, Whitney Martin and Alyssa Wise shaved two tenths of a second off their heat time and placed third overall at 45.66.
Senior Chris Spadaro, a Holland, Pa., native, leaped to a mark of 6.93m in long jump to place 13th out of 38 competitors.
Pitt closed out the day with the women's sprint medley relay, in which Lysaih Rice, Nina Crawford, Jordan Bourgeois and Anja Weiler placed 16th at 3:58.12.
