PITTSBURGH - Pitt head softball coach and former University of Massachusetts softball standout, Holly Aprile is set to be inducted into the Greater Binghamton Hall of Fame, Monday, April 24.
Aprile will be one of 10 individuals honored, marking her third induction to a Hall of Fame institution, having already been inducted into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 and the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame in 2011.
Aprile is currently in her 14th season at Pitt and ninth as head coach. During her time at the helm, she led the Panthers to their first NCAA and ACC Tournament appearances, while guiding Pitt into the USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings for the first time in program history.
In 2015, Aprile led the Panthers to a 37-22 record, the winningest season in program history. During that year, the Panthers reached the ACC Championship game and NCAA Regional final for the first time. Over the past three seasons, Pitt has a .587 win percentage (91-64). Aprile became Pitt's all-time leader in coaching wins with 237, passing Michelle Phalan's mark of 226.
In addition to team success, Aprile has helped guide players to individual achievements as well. In her nine seasons leading the team, the Panthers have had seven NFCA All-Region selections, seven All-ACC honorees, four ACC All-Tournament performers, six ACC All-Academic selections and 12 NFCA Scholar Athlete honorees.
A graduate of UMass where she played from 1989-92 as a pitcher/outfielder, Aprile was a four-time all-conference first-team selection. She was also selected as the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year in 1992 and A-10 Rookie of the Year in her freshman season. Aprile was a standout on the mound and at the plate, holding career and season records for the Minutewomen.
On the international level, she was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team from 1993-1999, competing in the U.S. Olympic Festival (1993-97), Pan Am Qualifying (1994, 1997) and the South Pacific Classic (1998).
At Afton High School in New York, Aprile recorded an 87-8 record, tossing 32 no-hitters in four years. She helped lead the Crimson Knights to two state championships and was named the Daily Star Player of the Year in 1987 and 1988.
