Panthers Post Solid Performances from Coast to Coast

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams had successful performances at four meets across three states Friday: at the Pepsi Florida Relays, Sanford Invitational, San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Texas Relays.
Pepsi Florida Relays (Gainesville, Fla.)
Women's highlights:
- Junior Andin Fosam placed first in the college division of the hammer throw with a toss of 61.18m.
The 4x400m "A" team of Morgan Harvey, Quadaisha Newkirk, Laila Ismail and Desiree Garland qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 3:38.78 in the preliminary round, placing second.
- Newkirk (53.30) and Garland (54.31) set personal records in the 400m, while Harvey (1:00.07) and Ismail (1:00.47) posted career bests in the 400m hurdles.
- Sophomore Sydney Alderman placed 14th in the javelin at 39.86m.
Men's highlights:
- Desmond Palmer's time of 13.75 in the 110m hurdles was good enough for a personal record, however, the race was deemed not "wind legal" as speeds were above 2.0 miles per hour. Palmer took fourth in the 400m hurdles, coming in at 50.65.
- Freshman Dante Watson (1:51.63) and junior James Hare (3:55.57) set personal records in their respective events, the 800m and the 1500m.
- Jamaree Murray took 37th in the 400m at 48.43.
Stanford Invitational (Stanford, Calif.)
- Joslin Sellers led a trio of Panthers in the 1500m, posting a personal record of 4:29.63 and finishing 13th in her section. Miranda Salvo and Amy Kelly followed at 4:30.25 and 4:32.14, respectively.
- Sophomore Gillian Schriever finished 20th in the talent-packed 10,000m invite at 34:05.13.
San Francisco State Distance Carnival (San Francisco, Calif.)
Women's highlights:
- Four Panthers set personal records in their respective events: Anja Weiler (4:33.12), Makenzie Zeh (4:36.05) and Sam Shields (4:39.59) in the 1500m, and Natalie Hilton (10:57.76) in the 3000m steeplechase.
- Senior Ariel Pastore-Sebring represented Pitt in the 5000m, coming in 45th at 17:17.75.
Men's highlights:
- Billy Caldwell clocked a personal record in the 1500m at 3:51.53, placing fifth, while Matt McGoey (14:22.39) and Jackson Morton (14:52.45) posted PRs in the 5000m.
- Ryan Hughes (31:06.88) and Alex Archer (31:45.54) represented Pitt in the 10,000m run, coming in at 38th and 60th, respectively.
Texas Relays (Austin, Texas)
- Katie Adair represented Pitt in the pole vault, but was unable to register a mark. She will vault for the Panthers Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
