Pitt Caps Eventful Weekend with Success

PITTSBURGH – Members of the Pitt track and field teams completed weekend competition with prosperous outings at three meets across the country Saturday. Below is a summary of highlights.
Pepsi Florida Relays (Gainesville, Fla.)
- The 4x400m relay team of Morgan Harvey, Quadaisha Newkirk, Laila Ismail and Desiree Garland set a season-best mark of 3:36.31 and finished as runners-up in the college division behind Oregon (3:35.73).
- Garland, Danielle Leaks, Harvey and Newkirk placed 18th in the 4x400m relay at 1:37.37.
- The 4x400m relay team of Genaya Johnson, Whitney Martin, Lysaih Rice and Leaks took 30th in the 4x100m at 46.30.
- Senior Chris Spadaro placed 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 14.42m.
- Pitt's men's 4x400m team placed eighth in the Jimmy Carnes College race at 3:09.93.
Stanford Invitational (Stanford, Calif.)
- Junior Beth Shenck represented the Panthers in the 800m run and placed 34th at 2:12.42.
San Francisco State Distance Carnival (San Francisco, Calif.)
- Junior Nate Sloan led Pitt with a personal record of 1:50.03 in the 800m, placing fifth, followed by Drew Glick (1:54.73, 30th) and Billy Caldwell (1:56.18, 44th).

Pitt will compete at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. (April 7-8) and the George Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va. (April 8).
