Walters Posts School Record as Panthers Crush Cougars, 87-49

Junior Center Goes 12-of-12 from Field for Perfect Game
PITTSBURGH – Junior center Kalista Walters hit a school-record 12-of-12 from the field in an 87-49 win for Pitt women's basketball (8-6, 0-1 ACC) over Chicago State (0-15, 0-0 WAC) Sunday at Petersen Events Center.
The Fleetwood, Pa., native's performance marked a single-game school record for field goal percentage with a minimum of 10 attempts. The previous record of 14-of-16 (.875) was set by Lorri Johnson against Cleveland State Dec. 19, 1988.
Walters ended with a game-high 24 points and to go along with four rebounds and two blocks. Junior forward Danielle Garven had 16 points on 7-of-10 from the field with five rebounds and a career-high six assists. Junior Kauai Bradley tied her career high with seven assists to go along with six points, seven rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
The Panthers used a 12-0 run to reach a 14-3 lead with 3:56 left to play in the first quarter, but the Cougars answered with a 10-2 run to cut their deficit to three points (16-13) with 1:29 remaining in the period. Pitt held on to a 21-15 advantage at the first break, with Walters and Garven pacing the team with six points apiece.
Pitt scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to reach a 32-15 lead with 4:24 remaining before halftime. Junior guard Cassidy Walsh hit two 3-pointers in the period and sunk a free throw with five seconds left to give the Panthers their largest lead of the half, up 22 (41-19). The Panthers held the Cougars to just four points scored for the period.
The Panthers scored a season-high 31 points in the third quarter, with their previous high being 27 in the fourth quarter against Arkansas State (Nov. 25).
Pitt reached its largest lead of the season (41) following a Garven jumper at the 9:33 mark in the fourth quarter (74-33). Freshman forward Magatte Sall scored her first points as a Panther – a 3-pointer – with 8:07 to go in the game. Pitt held on for the 38-point victory, 87-49.
