- The Panthers continue to lead the ACC with 7.3 blocked shots per game, good for fourth place in the NCAA. Pitt's total blocked shots (88) is ranked third in the nation.
- According to the NCAA, junior center Kalista Walters holds the best field goal percentage in the ACC at 66.3 percent (61-of-92), ranking fifth in the country.
- According to the ACC, freshman guard Pika Rodriguez holds the best 3-point field goal percentage in the league at 53.3 percent (16-of-30).
- Pitt, North Carolina and Notre Dame are the only teams in the ACC with two or more players who list three or more double-doubles each this season. Redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop and junior center Kalista Walters are two of 13 student-athletes in the ACC with three or more double-doubles on the year.
A WIN WOULD…
- Be Pitt's first ACC-opening win (0-4) since joining the league during the 2013-14 season. Thursday marks the Panthers' first ACC opener on the road, with the first four openers played in Pittsburgh.
- End an 11-game losing streak when playing on the road, dating back to Pitt's win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2016).
- Extend Pitt's win streak against the Cavaliers to six games. The Panthers have not lost to Virginia since Nov. 22, 1996, in Pittsburgh (64-55).
- Extend Pitt's win streak when playing in Charlottesville to three games. The Panthers have not lost when playing at Virginia since Nov. 25, 1995 (103-56).
- Improve Pitt's overall record against Virginia to 6-2.
LAST TIME OUT
- Junior forward Danielle Garven had a game-high 15 points as Pitt downed Bucknell, 57-39, Dec. 20 at Petersen Events Center.
- Redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop was the only other Panther with double figures in the scoring column (12), and junior center Kalista Walters was one point away from a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
- Pitt tied a season low for allowed points, matching its game against Cornell (Nov. 13) with 39, while forcing a season-high 28 turnovers.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
- Virginia (7-6, 0-0 ACC) is riding a three-game win streak into Thursday's meeting with the Panthers, defeating Ohio (Dec. 17), Indiana (Dec. 18) and Manhattan (Dec. 21) over a five-day span. The Cavaliers have not lost since a Dec. 2 game at Rutgers (52-43).
- Sophomore guard Dominique Toussaint is Virginia's leading scorer with 11.5 points per game, followed by Jocelyn Willoughby (10.4 ppg) and J'Kyra Brown (10.0). Six-foot-nine center Felicia Aiyeotan is second in the ACC with 2.6 blocks per game.
