PITTSBURGH – With national championship meet qualification on the line, Pitt men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Lehigh University, Friday at the Goodman Campus Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
The women's 6K will start at 10:45 a.m., and the men's 10K will follow at 11:45 a.m.

PANTHER ENTRIES
Competing at the Regional will be:
- Men: freshman Zach Lefever, sophomores Jackson Morton and Nick Wolk, juniors Ryan Hughes, Matt McGoey and Nate Sloan, and seniors Billy Caldwell and Aaron Lauer.
- Women: sophomore Sam Shields, juniors Miranda Salvo, Gillian Schriever and Makenzie Zeh, and seniors Kelly Hayes, Amy Kelly, Joslin Sellers and Melanie Vlasic.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
- Each of the teams and individuals competing will be vying for a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
- The top teams from each gender in each region, plus 13 at-large teams from each gender from across the country will qualify for the national championships.
- After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals from each gender will be selected to compete at nationals. A complete breakdown of the qualification process can be found at USTFCCCA.org.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- Participating women's teams (28): American, Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Washington, Georgetown, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Maryland, Monmouth, Navy, NJIT, Penn, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, St. Francis (Pa.), Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, Towson, Villanova and West Virginia.
- Participating men's teams (26): American, Bucknell, Duquesne, George Washington, Georgetown, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, NJIT, Penn, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, St. Francis (Pa.), Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, UMBC, and Villanova.
LAST TIME AT THE MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL
- Gillian Schriever qualified for the 2016 NCAA National Championship meet with a fifth-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional. She finished with a time of 20:30 in the 6K race, becoming the second Pitt cross country student-athlete ever to qualify for the national meet, and the first since Maureen McCandless in 2004.
- Schriever and teammate Melanie Vlasic each earned All-Region honors by placing within the top 25. Vlasic finished 23rd at 21:16.
- As a team, the women took seventh, repeating last year's placement and matching the program's best finish at the regional meet.
- The men's team placed 11th in the 10K race, marking their best score at the meet since taking a program-record sixth place in 2006. The Panthers also finished ahead of higher-ranked La Salle, as the Explorers finished 13th.
- The men's top finisher was redshirt senior Michael Runco at 31st with a time of 31:28, followed by junior Aaron Lauer in 51st at 31:48.
LAST TIME OUT
- The men's and women's cross country teams each finished 10th at the ACC Championships held at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park (Oct. 27).
- To start the day, sophomore Nick Wolk was the Panthers' top finisher in the men's 8K, taking 42nd at 24:23.2. In the women's 6K, junior Gillian Schriever led the way for Pitt, coming in 36th at 21:14.3.

- Qualifying teams and individuals will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Louisville, Saturday, Nov. 18, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
