FAMILIAR TERRITORY
- Although Friday marks the first year that the ACC Cross Country Championships will be held at Sawyer Park, the Panthers got a chance to preview the course earlier in the month at the Pre-National Invitational (Oct. 14). The park will also play host to the NCAA Division I Championships Saturday, Nov. 18.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
- The ACC All-Conference Cross Country Teams will be composed of the top 21 finishers in each Conference Championship.
- Team scoring is based on individuals' order of finish. The top seven finishers' scores count towards the team score.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- The Syracuse men and NC State women enter this year's event as the defending champions.
- All-American Justyn Knight leads the Orange and will be defending his ACC individual title on the men's side. The NC State women boast a balanced attack that includes sophomore Elly Henes – named ACC Women's Performer of the Week on October 4 – and three-time ACC Freshman of the Week Dominque Clairmonte.
- The Syracuse men enter the ACC Championships ranked fourth nationally, while Virginia Tech is ranked No. 11, and NC State is at No. 22. The NC State women hold a No. 5 national ranking to lead all ACC teams.
LAST TIME AT THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Last season, both the men's and women's squads posted program-best team finishes at the ACC Championships. The women placed seventh, two spots better than their 2015 finish. The men took ninth, moving up four spots after taking 13th for the two seasons prior.
- Gillian Schriever posted the best individual ACC finish by a Pitt female cross country runner in program history, taking fifth place in the 6K with a personal-record time of 20:04.7. She became Pitt's first All-ACC Cross Country honoree.
- On the men's side, three runners placed in the top 50: Michael Runco (32nd - 24:10.7), Aaron Lauer (37th - 24:17.6) and Nick Wolk (50th - 24:28.9). Runco's placement marked Pitt's best individual male performance at an ACC meet in school history. In 2015, the Panthers' top performer was Chris Montgomery in 71st.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt raced against some of the top competition in the country at the Pre-National Invitational Saturday, Oct. 14, at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.

Following Hughes was senior Aaron Lauer in 74th (24:17.4, PR) and sophomore Nick Wolk in 94th (24:46.6).
- Leading the way for Pitt in the women's seeded 6K was junior Gillian Schriever, coming in 60th at 20:50.6.
