UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Pitt distance runner Ariel Pastore-Sebring posted a personal record en route to a win in the 5000m race during the first day of competition at the Penn State National Open Friday at the Multi-Sport Facility and Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

The Avon Grove, Pa., native took down her competition by nearly 20 seconds, finishing at 16:55.24.

Teammate Andin Fosam also enjoyed success in her event, taking first in the weight throw for the third time in as many meets. She tossed for 19.40m, landing nearly a full meter ahead of her competition.

On the men's side, senior Desmond Palmer set a personal record in the 60m hurdles at 7.86 seconds, finishing third.

Other top finishes for Pitt included:

- Alyssa Wise, fourth in the women's 60m (7.65)
- Chris Spadaro, fourth in the men's long jump (7.14m)
- Lauren Corbitt, fifth in the women's pole vault (3.50m)
- Taylor Middleton, 11th in the women's long jump (5.44m)

Both of the Panthers' distance medley relay squads placed second. For the women, it was Makenzie Zeh, Jamila Branch, Rebecca Peters and Erin O'Connell finishing at 12:18.07. Matt McGoey, Myles Addison, Dante Watson and Nate Sloan posted a time of 10:07.61 for the men.
