PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh head coach Debbie Yohman announced the addition of Anne Meade to her staff Wednesday afternoon. Meade joins the Panthers as an assistant coach after holding the same position at the prestigious North Stars Gymnastics Academy in Boonton, N.J.
"I am so excited to bring in another assistant of her caliber,” said Yohman. "Anne has been mentored at one of the top clubs in the country, under Tony and Paula Gehman, both as an athlete and a coach. I have watched her coach for years. She has great technical knowledge but more importantly she has an innate ability to coach the athletes’ confidence and mental strength, which will help us continue to progress as a team. I can't wait to begin working with her.”
Meade joins the college coaching ranks for the first time following 16 years of experience at the club level. She made her mark in the gymnastics work at North Stars Gymnastics Academy, which was home to Meade for 15 years. There she helped transform the academy into one of the top clubs in the country.
Meade coached a variety of regional and national level gymnasts, in particular Alicia Boren, a Junior Olympic National Champion, and Rachel Lukas, a two time National Champion. She coached athletes in the Visa USA Championships in 2013 as well as the CoverGirl Classic for three years.
Prior to her coaching years, Meade attended the University of New Hampshire from 1995-99 on a full athletic scholarship for gymnastics. She graduated in 1999 with a degree in early childhood studies.
Meade spent her early years as an elite gymnast, training with the USA Gymnastics Team from 1991-93. She was a Junior National Champion in 1991 and also competed in the Pan-American Games in Havana, Cuba the same year.
