Pitt Gymnastics Wins First EAGL Championship in Program History

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team made program history as the Panthers scored a season-high 195.675 to win the EAGL Championship for the first time on March 19 at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt earned the championship nod after it outscored New Hampshire [2nd-195.525], reigning EAGL champs George Washington [3rd-195.350], North Carolina [4th-194.975], NC State [5th-194.500] and Towson [6th-193.875]. The Panthers score was the eighth best in program history and it marked the second time the team has hit it this season.
Pitt finished the meet with seven top-five finishes and named nine gymnasts to first and second All-Tournament teams.
Lindsay Offutt concluded her career at home being named the all-around winner with a 39.525. The senior placed first on beam with a season-high 9.950, which also tied her career-high and the second-highest score in Pitt history. Offutt finished tied for second on floor with a massive 9.900, while tying for third on both vault (9.850) and bars (9.825). Offutt's
Senior Miya Dotson also finished her career at home with a first-place finish, tying for the lead spot on bars with a 9.850.
Junior Tracey Pearson rounded out the top-five finishes for the Panthers, as she tied for third with Offutt on vault (9.850).

MEET RUNDOWN
The Panthers began the meet on bars, scoring a 48.675. In addition to Dotson's first place finish and Offutt's third, freshman Lucy Brett scored a season-high 9.725 on the event. Sophomore Taylor Laymon added a 9.675, while Pearson added a 9.600.
Pitt moved to beam for their second rotation and posted their second-highest score of the night with a 49.025, which also marked a season-high. Offutt's 9.950 led the team and was followed by junior Kelly Burak who finished tied for sixth overall with a 9.850. Freshman Brittany West scored a 9.800 on the event, while senior Lisa Soto ended her career with a 9.750.
After sitting out a rotation with a bye, the Panthers moved to floor for the fourth rotation of the afternoon. Pitt earned a team total of 48.875 on the event behind Offutt's 9.900. Pearson finished tied for 12th overall with a 9.800, while sophomore Dani Hall ended the event with a 9.775.
The Panthers finished the meet in the fifth rotation, as the squad scored a season-high 49.100 which was their highest event-total of the day. Following Offutt and Pearson was freshman Meagan Oscar who posted a season-high 9.800 to finish 10th overall. West and Dotson tied for 15th overall with a 9.775.
Pitt finished the meet on a bye, allowing the team to watch its overall total remain in the lead at the conclusion of the final rotation.
Pearson was the Panthers only other all-around contender. She finished sixth overall with a 38.925.
