"This has been four years in the making," said head coach Dan Fisher. "I'm extremely proud of this group of girls and I'm also thankful for a very supportive administration and a school that loves volleyball."
"Dayton is a team that we played two years ago and they obviously had a great year. We are going to train and prepare all week and are going to try to make Pittsburgh proud."
This will be the seventh meeting between the Panthers and Flyers, with Pitt trailing in the all-time series 2-4. The Panthers took the most recent contest in 2014 by way of sweep.
Pitt will be appearing in its 14th NCAA tournament and its first since the Panthers took on No. 25 Ohio (L, 0-3) in the opening round of the 2004 tournament. Pitt's last win in NCAA post season play comes a year prior in 2003 when the Panthers defeated Penn, 3-1, in the first round before falling to then ranked No. 10 Penn State in four sets.
In the event of a Pitt win, the Panthers will take on the winner of the Penn State/LIU Brooklyn match-up, which is slated for Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. following Pitt's match-up with Dayton.
The Panthers are one of three ACC teams to make the tournament. The other two teams include the sixth seed in North Carolina and Florida State.
