PITTSBURGH -- Rising senior Rich Condeelis was selected today by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
"I can't even explain my emotions," said Condeelis. "I made it through the day. It's a great honor to be chosen. It's everybody's dream that plays the game."
Condeelis is just the second Pitt player ever to be drafted by Minnesota, with the last being pitcher Ethan Mildren in 2013. He is the third Panther to be taken in this year's draft, making this the fourth time in the last five years in which three or more Panthers have been selected.
One of three players that came to the Panthers in 2015 by way of Lackawanna College, Condeelis increasingly found himself in high-leverage situations over the course of the year. He worked 22.2 innings in 19 appearances, striking out 28 and recording two saves.
The Tunkhannock, Pa., native picked up both saves in the season's last four games -- each in multi-inning efforts -- and didn't allow a run in four consecutive appearances (8.1 IP) before the season's final game.
The draft concludes today, the last of three days of the event which began on June 8.
