ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Pittsburgh baseball team (16-29, 6-18 ACC) will visit Georgia Tech (30-17, 11-13 ACC) for the first time in program history as the two square off in a three-game set this weekend.
The teams met for the first time last season, when the Panthers handed the then-No.23 Yellow Jackets a three-game sweep. With the sweep, Pitt improved to 8-0 at home to begin the year and extended its home conference winning streak to 18 games at the time.
The Panthers have currently lost four straight and are coming off a weekend in which they suffered a sweep of their own, this one coming at the hands of then-No.16 Miami. It was just the fourth home sweep in 25 weekend series played at Charles L. Cost Field for the team, and featured only the fourth-ever shutout of the Panthers in the Cost's friendly confines.
PROBABLE PITCHING
Friday: RHP T.J. Zeuch (4-5, 3.55 ERA) vs. LHP Jonathan King (3-3, 3.60)
Saturday: RHP Aaron Sandefur (1-6, 4.98) vs. LHP Ben Parr (5-2, 3.76)
Sunday: RHP Sam Mersing (3-2, 5.08) vs. RHP Brandon Gold (6-2, 2.99)
BOO'S BICENTENNIAL
Entering the weekend, senior slugger Boo Vazquez is just three hits shy of 200 in his career.
- He is set to become just the 13th player in program history to reach this milestone.
- The 12 current members of the 200 Hit Club comprise the only players in Pitt history to post 200 hits, 100 runs, and 100 RBIs. Vazquez would be among them in that regard as well.
- Last player to reach the 200 hit mark was Casey Roche (240) in 2014.
STARTING OFF WRIGHT
Leadoff hitter Jacob Wright is emerging as one of Pitt's best bats - stringing together a 32-game reached bases streak, the longest on the team this year and currently second in the ACC. He's reached base in 40 of his 42 games this year.
- Hitting .327 (35-107) during the span to raise average by 89 points to .289.
- Has a base hit in 20 of the last 22 games. During the span, has a .510 on base percentage.
- Team-high .435 on base percentage, 31 walks and 15 stolen bases.
- Led off the game 40 of 41 times this year and in that situation is batting .405 (15-37). His OBP is .463 in that spot with an additional walk and three HBP.
- Leading off his last 23 games, Wright is 11-21 (.524) and has reached 13 times (.565 on base %) and has come around to score 10 times.
TRIPLE THREAT
Pitt ranks second in the country and first in the ACC with 23 triples on the year.
- Ties program record for triples in a season (2013).
- Frank Maldonado crushed two triples against Akron giving him five this year, which is second the ACC and 25th in DI I.
- Aaron Schnurbusch also has five triples, tying him with Maldonado in nat'l/ACC rankings.
- Both Maldonado and Schnurbusch are tied for sixth in a single-season at Pitt.
- Ron Sherman became the latest Panther with two triples in a game, hitting a pair of three-baggers against Fairfield in game one.
- The team posted its fifth multi-triple game of 2015 with two at Penn State on 4/29.
LONG RANGE PRECISION
In a recent poll of Division I teams, Pitt ranked T-18th nationally in outfield assists (12) among reporting schools that held a minimum of 11 total outfield assists on the year.
- Aaron Schnurbusch leads all Panthers with six, tying him for 10th nationwide in that same unofficial survey.
LEBLANC LEADING THE WAY
Just a freshman, Charles LeBlanc is already showing signs of his power at the plate.
- Three home runs this season, all coming in a six game stretch.
- Only player this season with a homer in back-to-back games (4/17, 4/18).
- Was the only Panther to reach base in the first 10 games this season.
- Owns team lead with 13 multi-hit games and 27 RBIs.
- Third with a .265 average and T-first with 44 hits.
- Had a season-long seven game hitting streak from Feb. 20 to March 7.
- Was 4-6 with four RBIs, three runs, a double and a triple in game one vs. Niagara.
- In game one against No. 11 UNC, went 2-2 with a career-high five RBIs.
- Two hits and three RBIs vs. Akron.
- Leads the team with four 3+ RBI games.

UP NEXT
The team will make its final scheduled road trip of the season when it completes the back end of a home-and-home against longtime rival West Virginia in Morgantown. The Mountaineers topped the Panthers, 4-1, in Pittsburgh on March 31.
