KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Andrew Wells, yet again, re-established his own school record on Thursday night as he tossed a 60.42m in the Hammer Throw on the opening day of competition at the Tennessee Relays.
It is becoming standard for Wells, the owner of three different top distances in program history, to throw for school records. He broke his own program mark during the indoor season in the Weight Throw twice, and will have a chance to set the school record in the Discus for a third time in his career on Friday.
Wells placed eighth overall on Thursday night at Tom Black Track Complex.
The Panthers had six Hammer Throwers register distances tonight, three each in both the men's and the women's competition.
Rounding out the men's efforts were freshmen Chris Celona in 21st place with a throw of 50.22 and Jim Thoth in 25th place with a distance of 47.06m.
On the women's side, Senior Haley Springman placed 12th overall with a throw of 52.93. Andin Fosam followed that up in 21st place with a 48.34m effort, while Carlin Chruscicki was 31st with a distance of 38.84m.
The Panthers will continue action tomorrow at the Tennessee Relays in the field events, while the sprinters and jumpers will take to the track as well. Click here for live results.
