LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven student-athletes from the 2014-15 University of Pittsburgh softball team garnered National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the NFCA on Oct. 6, 2015.
To earn Academic All-America status, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the respective academic year.
“One of the most important aspects of our program is to help our student-athletes become the best people they can be,” said Head Coach Holly Aprile. “Success on the field is certainly at the forefront of our mission but academic achievement goes hand in hand with our team objectives. We are so proud of the effort and commitment that our student-athletes give to their academics and we sincerely thank the NFCA for honoring our young women for their academic success.”
Former Pitt softball players Kaila Balatgek, Jordan Fannin, Savannah King, Alexa Larkin, Carmelena Moffa and Carly Thea, along returning redshirt senior Maggie Sevilla were all honored.
Larkin, Moffa and Sevilla landed on the list for the third time, while Balatgek and King earned their second showing. 2014-15 was Fannin and Thea’s first year receiving the honor.
The NCAA honored 1,554 Division I student-athletes, the most of any collegiate division. High School (weighted and unweighted), NAIA and Junior College student-athletes were also included.
