PHILADELPHIA—The Pitt women's soccer team travels to Philadelphia to play two matches in the area this weekend: at Villanova (Friday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m.) and at La Salle (Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.).
Pitt enters the weekend with a 3-2-0 record following victories over Robert Morris (3-1), at Toledo (1-0) and a loss to Washington (1-0). The youthful Panthers sport a 28-player roster with 23 freshmen and sophomores. Through five matches, junior Roosa Arvas leads the Panthers in both points (seven) and goals (three), freshman Taylor Pryce has two goals and five points and freshman Hanna Hannesdottir has a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Francis has a stellar 0.59 goals against average and has made 18 saves in 459 minutes of action. Pitt has allowed only three goals and 42 shots in five matches this year.
Pitt will play former Big East rival Villanova for the 17th time in women's soccer. Villanova enters the match with a 1-2-0 record after defeating Radford 1-0 on a Katie Martin goal. The Wildcats also dropped a 5-0 loss to No. 3 Virginia on Sunday.
Pitt has never faced La Salle in women's soccer. The Explorers enter the match with a 1-2-1 record after dropping a 1-0 decision to Washington last weekend. LaSalle also played William & Mary on Thursday night, playing them to a 3-3 double overtime draw.
Following this weekend, Pitt returns home to host Virginia Commonwealth on Friday, Sept. 12 at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff for that match is 7 p.m.
