PITTSBURGH -
• Serving as game captains against Notre Dame are DL Myles Caragein, OL Jordon Gibbs, OL Chris Jacobson and DB Andrew Taglianetti.
• Serving as today’s honorary coach is John Majors, who spent eight seasons at Pitt (1973-76, 1993-96) and led the Panthers to the 1976 national championship. Pitt opened the ’76 season under Majors at Notre Dame and defeated the Irish, 31-10 — the first of 12 consecutive victories en route to the national title.
• Serving as today’s honorary captain is Tony Dorsett, a four-time All-American at Pitt and the 1976 Heisman trophy winner. In four games against Notre Dame, Dorsett rushed for an incredible 754 yards – still an NCAA record against a four-year opponent. Dorsett’s 303 yards against the Irish in 1975 remains a Pitt record and Notre Dame opponent record 36 years later.
• Sophomore guard Cory King made his first career start in place of the injured Chris Jacobson, who was lost for the year with a knee injury against Iowa.
• DB Andrew Taglianetti forced the first fumble of his career in the first quarter, while LB Greg Williams recorded the recovery for the Panthers, the third of his career.
• Pitt led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers have not allowed a point in the first quarter this season, outscoring their opponents 29-0 in the initial period.
• DB Jason Hendricks’ second-quarter interception marked the first of his career. • TE Hubie Graham’s 3-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter is his first career TD reception.
• DE Brandon Lindsey’s third-quarter sack gives him at least one sack in 10 of the past 16 games. Lindsey has three sacks this year to lead the team.
