PITTSBURGH -
Pitt offensive linemen Chris Jacobson and Lucas Nix have been named to the Outland Trophy watch list, while defensive end Brandon Lindsey was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list; it was announced today by the Football Writers Association of America.
Jacobson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and Nix (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) join a group of 65 honorees on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which has annually been presented to the nation's top interior lineman since 1946. Lindsey was one of 87 players named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is awarded to the nation's defensive player of the year.
Forming the nucleus of Pitt's offensive line, both Jacobson and Nix are entering their senior seasons for the Panthers. Jacobson made the switch from guard to center this spring and Nix will play right tackle. Both are poised for successful senior seasons as they look to pave the way for junior running back Ray Graham.
Lindsey (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) had a stellar 2010 season, earning All-Big East Second Team honors while leading the conference in tackles for loss with 1.38 per game. Lindsey ranked 16th nationally in both sacks (0.77 sacks/game) and tackles for loss. The 2011 season promises to be an exciting one for Lindsey, who looks to take advantage of new head coach Todd Graham's attacking style of defense.
Pitt opens the 2011 season on Sept. 3 at Heinz Field against Buffalo. For ticket information, contact the Panthers Ticket Office at 800-643-PITT (7488) or log on to www.PittsburghPanthers.com.
