"This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our student-athletes, staff, and fans," Pitt Athletic Director Allen Greene said. "The 2027 game will be a great opportunity to enjoy Irish culture and support our team, and I can't wait to see Panther Nation representing proudly in Dublin."
Pitt last played a football game outside the U.S. on Dec. 2, 1989. The Panthers defeated Rutgers, 46-29, in the Emerald Isle Classic at Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin.
The Panthers will be the designated home team for the 2027 matchup in Ireland. Pitt is 3-0 all-time against Wisconsin. The teams last met during the 1967 season.
"Pitt Football has been part of so many special moments, and we're excited to create another one in Ireland," said Pat Narduzzi, Pitt's Chris Bickell '97 Head Football Coach. "It's going to be an incredible experience for our players, our fans, and college football fans around the world."
The Aer Lingus College Football Classic aims to bring American college football to Ireland each year to promote Irish-American relations and collaboration, and 2027 will be the sixth consecutive season that college football begins its season with a game in Dublin between two prestigious teams. The 2026 game will feature TCU and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member, North Carolina.
"Bringing Pitt Football and its loyal fan base to Dublin is an exciting continuation of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic tradition," said John Anthony, Co-Founder of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic and Executive Vice President of On Location. "Pitt fans have so many strong ties and so much in common with the Irish people. This will be one of the very best experiences ever for Pitt fans."
