Baseball Falls at Penn State, 5-4

State College, Pa.- The Pitt baseball team fell to Penn State, 5-4, Wednesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College.
The Panthers (19-12, 6-3 Big East) outhit the Nittany Lions, 9-7 in the contest, and seniors Zach Duggan and Kevan Smith each collected two hits.
Trailing 3-0 after five innings, the Panthers posted three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game.
Smith started the scoring with a one-out RBI triple to center field, scoring Duggan. With Smith on third, senior David Chester cut the deficit to one with an RBI groundout to shortstop.
Pitt tied the game on a bases loaded walk issued to senior Philip Konieczny.
The Nittany Lions reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs on a double to right-center.
Smith pulled the Panthers back within a run after a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. Duggan scored on the play after leading off the inning with a triple to left-center.
Pitt was unable to score a run in the final two innings as Penn State improved to 20-10.
Senior Kevin Dooley started the game for the Panthers, pitching the first four innings. The Doylestown, Pa. native struck out four batters.
Lucas Ellex (0-1) suffered the loss, pitching one inning in relief.
The Panthers resume action on Friday, April 15 with a three game series against Big East foe Georgetown in Bethesda, Md.
