Panthers Fall to Connecticut, 1-0

STORRS, Conn. - After scoring six goals in a win over St. John's on Sunday, the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team struggled offensively in a 1-0 loss at Connecticut on Friday night.
Linda Ruutu scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies (7-6-2, 4-3-2) in the 33rd minute on a shot 30 yards out from the right side. It was her second goal of the season.
The Panthers fall to 2-11-4 overall and 1-6-2 in the Big East.
Jessica Dulski made five saves to record the shutout. Pitt goalie Kristina Rioux made four saves as the team's each had five shots on goal.
Ashley Cuba took six shots for the Panthers, while Dana DelleFemine was right behind her with five shots. The Huskies finished with a 24-15 advantage in shots, while the Panthers attempted more corner kicks (7-4).
Pitt's defense played great in the second half, allowing no shots on goal.
The Panthers will play their final away match of the season Sunday at Providence. They will wrap up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 21 with a home match against rival West Virginia at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
