PITTSBURGH— The Pitt-Duquesne men's soccer game was suspended due to excessive lightning Tuesday night at Duquesne's Art Rooney Field. The two teams played 60 minutes before the match was delayed. The delay lasted 90 minutes before the contest was officially called off.
When the game was suspended, Pitt led 1-0 on a Terry Akpua goal in the contest's 22nd minute. The play was set up by a through ball from freshman Ryan McKenzie who played it forward to junior Sam Luffy. The ball was redirected back out to Akpua who launched it on a line and into the net.
Pitt (2-0-0) is back in action this weekend when it hosts the Pitt Nike Tournament featuring the Panthers, Duquesne, Saint Joseph's and Army. On Friday, Duquesne plays Saint Joseph's at 5 p.m. and Pitt faces Army at 7:30 p.m. Those games are played at Founders Field. On Sunday, Army takes on Duquesne at 11 a.m. and Pitt hosts Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. Those contests will be played at North Allegheny High School.
