BOCA RATON, Fla.—Freshman Holly Stevens recorded her second home run of the season, as the University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Kentucky, this morning, in its third game of the Florida Atlantic Invitational. The Panthers slipped to 1-2 on the season.
Stevens hit a two-out bomb to left field in the top of the seventh inning to put the Panthers on the scoreboard. Her homer is also the second of the season in just three games for Pitt.
In the next at-bat, sophomore Jessica Rhodunda looked to be the tying run, as she was pinch running for sophomore Amanda Heitmeier, who reached first on an infield error. However she was left stranded with an infield out.
Junior Cory Berliner pitched the complete game, giving up seven hits and two early runs in six innings on the mound.
The Wildcats scored in the first inning after a lead-off walk stole second and advanced on base with two groundouts. Then in the second inning an infield single sent another runner in for their second and final run of the contest.
Berliner fell to 0-2 on the season.
The Panthers face Maryland at 11 a.m.
