Pitt Drops 3-2 Decision To Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Pitt men’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 contest to visiting Notre Dame on Wednesday night at Founders Field. The loss brings Pittsburgh to 6-8-2 on the year and 1-5-2 in conference play. The Fighting Irish improve to 8-4-4 and 5-2-1 in conference play.
Pitt struck first with a goal by freshman Alex Harrison, who recorded his second career goal off of redshirt junior Ryan Brode’s corner kick. It was the third assist of the season for Brode.
Twenty seconds later, Notre Dame struck when Steven Perry scored off of rebound off the Pittsburgh goal post to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 27th minute Jeb Brovsky scored off of a penalty kick for the Fighting Irish to give his team a 2-1 lead with twenty two minutes remaining in the first half.
With one minute remaining in the first half, the Panthers gained a 2-1 lead off an own goal put into the net by a Notre Dame player.
The Panthers entered the halftime with a 2-1 lead against the Fighting Irish.
In the last minute of regulation, Notre Dame’s Brendan King tallied his third goal of the season to secure the win. King controlled a cross from Michael Rose to put the ball in the back of the net for the 3-2 Notre Dame victory.
Goalkeeper Matt Aberegg made his second start in goal for the Panthers against the Fighting Irish.
Pitt was outshot by Notre Dame 27-11, and also held an edge in corners, 12-4.
Brode led Pitt in shots with four and one shot on goal. Nine Pitt players played the full 90 minutes of regulation.
The Panthers will conclude their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30 with a home contest against Connecticut at North Allegheny High School. Kick off is at 1 p.m.
