
Pitt Opens Big East Championship Tournament with South Florida

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh baseball team enters the 2009 Big East Championship Tournament as the seventh seed and will face the second-seeded South Florida Bulls in first-round action at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. at 8 p.m.
The game will be broadcasted live on the Bright House Sports Network with a live radio broadcast featured on Sirius XM Satellite Radio, channel 203 on XM and Sirius Channel 217 for subscribers to the Best of XM package.
The BIG EAST Championship is an eight-team, double-elimination tournament, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. The winner of the tournament receives the BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The May 23 Big East Championship game will be televised live on ESPNU, marking the fourth straight year in which the title game will be carried live on the ESPN family of networks.
Opening ceremonies and awards presentation is slated for Monday, May 18 beginning at 6 p.m. at Bright House Field and will be followed by the first-ever Big East Home Run Derby at 7 p.m.
No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 4 St. John's will open the tournament at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, and will be followed by No. 8 Cincinnati and No. 1 Louisville at 1 p.m. The Bearcats and Cardinals game will mark a rematch of last year's championship game. No. 6 Connecticut and No. 3 West Virginia will meet in the third game of the day with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. before No. 7 Pitt and No. 2 South Florida meet at 8 p.m.
