CHICAGO, Ill.—In a scoreless game till the bottom of the seventh inning, the University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped its first game of a doubleheader against No. 22 DePaul, this afternoon, in a 1-0 contest at Cacciatore Stadium.
Sophomore Cory Berliner (5-7) had held the Blue Demons scoreless through the first six innings of the game. However, a lead-off double in the bottom of the seventh would lead to the game-winning run. Berliner gave up five hits in 6.1 innings, while striking out four batters.
Pitt’s center fielder Reba Tutt ended DePaul’s hopes of a no-hitter with an infield single in the third inning. Tutt would later steal second before being stranded on base.
Tutt currently leads the team with 17 runs and a .293 batting average.
Game two of the doubleheader begins shortly.
