PITTSBURGH -- Twelve members of the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team have been selected to the Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League's All-Academic team, announced by the conference today.
Mallory Brewer, Dani Bryan, Anya Chayka, Jess Catalano, Alix Croop, Andrea Konesky, Jen Liberato, Shannon McConnell, Victoria McGuigan-Carl, Krista Rubini, Alicia Talucci, Lisa Taylor comprised Pitt's selections, the fifth most in the conference.
North Carolina State paved the way with 16 while New Hampshire, West Virginia and Rutgers each placed 14. Pitt's 12 selections were followed by Maryland with 11 and George Washington and North Carolina with eight apiece.
Bryan, McConnell and Rubini made their second appearances on the team while Konesky, a senior, is a three-time honoree. Making their first All-Academic team was Brewer, Chayka, Catalano, Croop, Liberato, McGuigan-Carl, Talucci and Taylor, who had the highest GPA on the team at 3.73 as a neuroscience major.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the two previous semesters. Freshmen are also eligible, if they earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
The Panthers wrap up regular-season action this week on Wednesday, March 11, at EAGL rival Maryland at 7 p.m. The two teams previously met Feb. 13, with the Terps edging out the win, 194.650-194.050.
