PITTSBURGH - The Pitt gymnastics team kicked off its season Friday night with their annual Blue Gold meet at Fitzgerald Field House.
The meet was an opportunity for Pitt's gymnasts to get in front of a crowd and compete in a live environment.
"We have some kids injured and we didn't want to push them past their comfort level tonight, but I feel confident that we are in a great position to be good in January, when it counts," head coach Debbie Yohman said.
"I was very pleased with tonight," Yohman continued. "The bars were great for us. I feel we nailed our routines. On the beam we struggled a bit and we held back on the floor because of the injuries, but we have some work to do there. The vault was another solid event for us tonight. Like I said, I am excited to see this team in January because I believe today we are where we need to be to be ready for the start of the season."
Pitt begins its regular season Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. against EAGL foe West Virginia and Kent State. The tri-meet will be held at Fitzgerald Field House.
