Women's Volleyball Slips Against San Jose State

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Senior Kelly Campbell records another match with double-digits in kills, as Pitt's women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to San Jose State (4-6), in its final contest of the Sheraton Four Points LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic held at Burns Recreation Center. Pitt dropped three sets with scores of 19-25, 18-25 and 21-25.
Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) led the squad with 10 kills and eight digs in the contest. Campbell leads the Panthers (3-7) with 98 kills on season and seven aces.
Additionally, sophomore Amy Town (Orillia, Ontario/Orillia) boasted a .312 hitting percentage with seven kills and two blocks in the match. On the year she has 96 kills and six aces.
Town had three kills and a .400 hitting percentage in the first set of the match, while Campbell tallied four kills in the second set.
In that same second set, senior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) assisted on 10 of the Panthers 12 kills.
Later, freshman Allyson Hodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) entered the match in the third set and chipped in four assists for Pitt.
The Panthers return to the Fitzgerald Field House on Friday, Sept. 19, as they host VCU, Gonzaga and Eastern Michigan in the annual two-day Pitt Invitational. Action begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday as VCU and Eastern Michigan meet.
