Women's Voleyball Blanks Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.—Senior Nicole Taurence recorded her second double-double of the season, as Pitt’s women’s volleyball team ends a five-match skid with a shutout victory over Robert Morris at Sewall Colonials, Tuesday evening. Pitt earned the victory with scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-16.
Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) tallied 30 assists and 15 digs in the match, for her second double-double on the year. With 274 assists on the season, Taurence is currently eighth on the all-time career assists list with 1,246.
Posting a match-high and tying her season high, senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) recorded 16 kills and a career-tying five blocks in the contest. Campbell leads the Pitt (4-7) with 114 kills, averaging three per set.
On the defensive end, junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) added 14 digs in the match, while freshman Hannah Swysgood (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) chipped in a career-high four blocks.
As a team, Pitt recorded 15 kills in the first set and posted a match-high .400 hitting clip for its third shutout of the year.
In the second set, the Panthers held RMU (8-3) to a .024 hitting percentage, allowing just seven kills. Later, the Colonials recorded another seven kills and a .051 hitting clip, while Pitt boasted 15 kills and a .306 attack percentage.
Pitt returns to Fitzgerald Field House this weekend, as it hosts its annual Pitt Invitational, featuring Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga and Virginia Commonwealth. Action begins on Friday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m., as VCU and EMU meet. The Panthers then face Gonzaga at 1 p.m.
