LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Sophomore Amy Town records 10 kills in Pitt’s first match of the Sheraton Four Points LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic, as the women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Loyola Marymount at Gersten Pavilion. The Panthers slipped in three sets with scores of 18-25, 13-25 and 19-25.
Town (Orillia, Ontario/Orillia) led Pitt (3-5) with 10 kills and eight digs, recording a .269 hitting percentage. In the first set, she posted a set-high five kills, while the Lions posted seven as a team.
The Panthers tallied 24 attack errors in the match, as LMU (5-3) posted 13 errors and a .194 hitting clip.
In the second set, senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) recorded a team-high five kills, while junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) added six digs. Campbell finished with eight kills and five digs in the match.
Stepping into a starting role, freshman Hannah Swysgood (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) had a career night with three block assists in the third set for Pitt.
On the night, freshman Allyson Hodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) set 13 of the squad’s 28 kills, while senior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) chipped in seven assists.
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday against UC Irvine at 1 p.m. and San Jose State on 8 p.m., as the final day of the Sheraton Four Points LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic commences.
