Softball Falls to UNLV Under the Lights

LAS VEGAS, Nev.-- Plagued with several errors, the Panthers dropped a 12-1 decision to UNLV under the lights, in their second game of the UNLV Eller Media Classic held at Eller Media Stadium. Pitt's softball team slipped to 6-4 on the season.
The Panthers recorded four errors in the contest, which led to eight unearned runs.
In the bottom of the second, two errors allowed four Rebel runs. UNLV then scored another six runs in the bottom of the third with a error, four hits and a pitching change. The final Rebel hit was a homer to left field.
Freshman Reba Tutt (Culpeper, Va./Highland) scored Pitt's first run of the game after reaching base on a throwing error by the shortstop. A sacrifice bunt moved her second, while junior Samantha Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) sent her home with a single to right. Tutt rounded third and scored when the right fielded made an ill-advised throw.
Sophomore Kayla Zinger (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) pitched the loss for Pitt, allowing 10 runs, three of which were earned and five hits in 2.0 innings.
The Panthers face Western Kentucky in its third game of the UNLV Eller Media Classic at 2:15 on Saturday, followed by a 4:30 contest against Long Beach State.
