Pitt vs. George Washington Notes
The Panthers gymnastics team (1-7, 1-1 EAGL) will head to Washington D.C. to take on EAGL rival George Washington in a conference matchup on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.. The meet marks Pitt's third EAGL contest this season, and George Washington's sixth. The Colonials are 6-3 overall and 2-3 in EAGL matchups.
Senior Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) took first place on beam against No. 22 Ohio State, being the only Panther to capture an event title at the meet. DeBone scored a 9.775 for the title, and also had a top finish on bars. With a team-high 9.750 on bars, DeBone placed fourth overall, and the best out of any Panther.
Another top performer on beam was Sarah Thompson (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora), who also out scored the Buckeyes. Thompson placed second behind DeBone, with a 9.750.
Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) had two team-high scores on both the floor exercise and vault. On the floor exercise, Bryan placed third after scoring a 9.850. With a 9.750 on vault, she tied for fourth.
Junior Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) consistently puts up top performances on bars. Croop posted a score of 9.725, tying for fifth. She also placed seventh in the floor exercise after registering a 9.775.
Pitt's last visit to Washington, D.C., was on March 6, 2004, where it lost 193.675-195.975. The Panthers, however, did claim the last meeting between the two schools after defeating the Colonials last year at the EAGL Championships, 194.150-192.775.
George Washington has lost three EAGL meets this season against North Carolina, West Virginia and North Carolina State.
