Pitt vs. Ohio State Notes
The Pitt gymnastics team (1-6, 1-1 EAGL) will travel to Columbus, Ohio for a matchup against No. 22 Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. The Panthers lost to No. 3 Florida in a hard fought battle at Fitzgerald Field House. The Buckeyes are 3-2-1overall and 1-0-1 Big Ten and are the Panthers second consecutive ranked opponent this season.
Junior Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) was Pitt's best competitor against the Gators. Croop proved to be a powerhouse on the bars, beam and floor exercise. On bars, Croop scored a team-high 9.700, tying for sixth. She scored a 9.550 on beam, placing tenth, and in the floor exercise, she tied for fifth with a team-high 9.750. Croop's performances were neck and neck with the Gator's top competitors.
Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) also fought hard against the tough competition. Bryan posted a 9.625 on bars, landing in eighth place. On the vault, Bryan scored a team-high 9.750, tying for fifth with freshman Molly Moyer (Telford, Pa./Homeschooled). Moyer also held up against the solid Gator lineup.
Panthers had other top performances on beam, with Samantha DeBone and Sarah Thompson both posting team-high scores of 9.675, tying for seventh. DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) has continually proven to be a powerhouse on beam, while Thompson (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) consistently excels in her events.
Pitt last traveled to Columbus in 2005, where it lost 191.550-195.225 to the Buckeyes. The Panthers defeated Ohio State the next year at Fitzgerald Field House in a close 192.925-192.850 win.
The Buckeyes lone loss stems from a 193.400-193.625 shortcoming to North Carolina State.
