Two Panthers Record Double-Doubles In Win

PITTSBURGH--Senior Diana Andreyko and junior Kelly Campbell posted double-doubles, Pitt's women's volleyball team swept Duquesne, 3-0, this evening at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The Panthers won with scores of 30-18, 30-27 and 30-16.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) both posted 15 kills and 11 digs a piece. Andreyko had one block solo and three block assists, while Campbell chipped in one block solo and another assist for the Panthers.
Junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) earned her first start of the season as the team's setter. Taurence recorded 40 assists in the contest and chipped in six digs and three kills.
The Panthers held the Dukes to a .073 hitting percentage, while junior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) led the team with a .385 hitting clip.
Pitt took charge in the first game of the night with a 10-4 lead after a Duquesne attack error. On the night, the Dukes had 28 errors, including 11 in that first game.
The squad continued to mount a lead, as sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) recorded on of her eight kills on the night to give Pitt a 20-8 lead. The Panthers went on to win after Taurence set up Campbell on game point.
In the second game of the match, Pitt earned an eight-point lead at 21-12. However, the Panthers were held with out a side out for seven plays, as Duquesne came back within two, 21-19. The Dukes and Pitt traded points back and forth until it was a one-point match at 24-23 in favor of the Panthers. A ball handling error gave Pitt the next point, as it rallied to the eventual win.
Then in the final game of the evening, the score stayed tight in the early stages. However after a Moses' kill tied the game at 6-6, the Panthers slowly pulled away. After a kill from Campbell extended the lead to 20-13, Pitt only gave up three points before winning the match.
The Panthers host the Pitt Invitational at Fitzgerald Field House this weekend. Pitt faces George Mason on Friday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The Panthers will also meet UAB and Buffalo in the two-day tournament.
