Jessica Moses Earns All-Tournament Honors

OXFORD, Ohio--Junior Jessica Moses earned All-Miami Best Western Invitational honors, as the Pitt volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to tournament host Miami in the final contest of the weekend, held in Millett Hall. The Red Hawks won the match with scores of 30-22, 21-30, 30-26 and 30-28.
Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) earns all-tournament honors after posting 15 kills and four digs in the match. In the tournament she led the squad with a .420 hitting percentage, 27 kills and added eight blocks.
Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) led the team with a double-double, posting 15 kills and 13 digs in the contest.
Other Panthers (1-5) recording kills in double digits included, senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) with 16 and sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) with 11. Dooley also added two blocks solos and two block assists, while Moses chipped in five block assists for the Panthers.
Pitt recorded a season-high .485 hitting percentage in game two with a collective 18 kills. In that game, the Panthers took a 16-9 lead following a kill from Campbell. The lead was extended to 23-14 following a points thanks to a Mosses' kill setup by freshman Emily Burke (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral). Pitt then won the next seven out of 13 points for the win.
In game four Pitt took an early 13-7 lead when Campbell's kill forced a Miami (2-3) timeout. The Redhawks came back and closed the gap, 13-11, when Pitt took its first timeout of the game. Moses gave the Panthers a 17-14 advantage before Miami tied the score at 17 three points later.
Both teams went back and forth, tying the score eight more times before the Red Hawks took the final lead at 29-28 and then the game at 30-28.
The Panthers open their home slate as they host the Pitt Invitational at Fitzgerald Field House on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The teams traveling to Pitt include George Mason, UAB and Buffalo.
